Barry’s History
Barry’s Steaks was founded by Roxborough native, Barry McGuinn, and his wife Wendy in July of 1989. After growing up on Jamestown Street, he began making cheesesteaks at D’Alessandro’s in 1967. He worked for Bill D'Alessandro for 22 years before deciding to go out on his own.
Barry and Wendy bought a pizza shop on the corner of Leverington and Ridge Avenue. After two months pizza was off the menu and he started focusing on what he knows best - cheesesteaks. In 1994, they moved down the street to 471 Leverington Avenue, where they are still located today. Since then, Barry’s has added items such as mini cheesesteaks, specialty cheesesteaks, and Barry's branded soda.
